Dutch champions swoop for Van Bommel

PSV Eindhoven have completed the signing of highly rated AZ winger Ruben van Bommel.

The 20 year old - son of former Dutch footballer Mark van Bommel - joins the 26 time Eredivise winners on a five year deal, for a fee believed to be in the region of €15m.

Impressive Breakthrough Season at AZ

The left winger enjoyed a promising 2024/2025 season in Alkmaar, contributing to 16 goal involvements in 34 matches in all competitions, including three goals in the Europa League.

A Dutch Under-21 international, Van Bommel also becomes PSV's all time record signing. His arrival at The Philips Stadium costing slightly more than Hirving Lozano's transfer from Napoli back in 2023, as well as Mateja Kezman's €14m move to Eindhoven from Partizan Belgrade in 2000.

Peter Bosz's men secured back to back titles in May following one of the most dramatic finishes in Dutch football history. Ajax lost a seemingly unassailable lead at the top after winning just one of their final five games, allowing PSV to take full advantage.

Reinforcements Needed Following Key Departures

The capture of Van Bommel gives more depth to the squad in the attacking areas, following the expected departures of two key players during this summers window. Playmaker Malik Tillman has already joined Bayer Leverkusen for €35m, while winger Noa Lang is expected to join Serie A side Napoli in the coming days. Full back Tyrell Malacia also returns to Manchester United following his season long loan spell.
